World Cup Sadness

South Korea and America are out of the World Cup, both in the same night:(

Guess I am going to have to root for Ghana now.

World Sports

The World (soccer) Cup is happening right now. The most watched sporting event in history (in case you were sitting on your sofa reading a book or watching some cheesy tv show).

Wow! It's an event that truly shapes nations. Or continents.

France has imploded.

England is on the verge.

South America is celebrating.

Wow! To think a single sport could do all that!

Student T-Shirt

A pic of the back of a student's t-shirt. The middle school girl was quite embarrassed to find out that she was wearing a "naughty" shirt. She honestly didn't know that this is something one should not wear in public. Or to English academy:)

Faulty Door Lock

So I went out early to E-Mart, came back, discovered I had forgetten my apartment key. Oops! First time in 6 months or so. Oh well. I still remembered my electronic key code . . . hey, boy genius, right? Only I was reminded that the reason I started using my key in the first place was because the electronic lock was having some problems. SO today it didn't work at all. Of course.

Long story short I--with a lot of friends' translation help--had to call a locksmith to come and drill out the old lock and reinstall a new one--about $60, which I figured the apt. bldg. should pay for since I pay them a maintenence fee every month, but they refused that.

It's done, I'm back in after 2 hours' lock out, so all is well I guess, but it still . . . aw, never mind, I could rant and rave but it will benefit no one, save perhaps my peace of mind. So I will r&r on my own . . .

A Little Bit of Wierdness

The other day I was at the ATM, just checking my account balance. To do this you have to open an outer door and enter into a small glass-walled room, where there are about 5 ATM machines.

I was in the middle of the process when I heard a Korean person speaking to me, or to my back. Though I live in what I consider one of the safest countries in the world, it does make me a bit nervous (naturally) when someone approaches me when I am using an ATM.

I looked over my shoulder and saw a middle-aged woman, who looked at me and said, in English, "Bus fare?"

I automatically said, "No", though more from someone wanting something from me when I was in the banking process than from an outright refusal of supposed charity.

I say "supposed" because this situation has never happened to me before. I mean, who goes into an ATM place soliciting money? And targets foreigners? There was a Korean woman in there at the time who was using an ATM and she was not asked for money. Only me.

And, as the woman who asked me for cash walked away, I could hear her muttering under her breath; I had the feeling I was roundly cussed out. Oh well.
